In 2021, we started Why Learn Languages, a student-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit to revolutionize the way language learning connects with culture, technology and global citizenship. Inspired by Simon Sinek’s “Golden Circle” theory, we decided to use the “Start With the Why” model, which teaches that people are the most inspired when starting from why. Language educators spend a lot of time determining what to learn and how to teach, but it is the why that makes students want to learn, become life-long learners, and succeed in our globalized world.
